What do you wish someone had told you at the start of your CFO career?
“It just seems to me that there’s so much opportunity in the world now. And what I mean by that is that technology has advanced so quickly. This is maybe a technology-centric view, but young people, and you know their names, have an idea. They start a company on a shoestring, and overnight—not overnight, but in a short period of time—some of these companies become incredibly successful: Facebook, the Googles, and so on.
“And it just didn’t feel like that when I was getting out of college. I think it’s easier now to create something with a good idea and a lot of hard work. Don’t be afraid to dream big. That sounds lofty, but I’ll say it another way, which what I tell my own children, who are in college or of post-college age: “Don’t limit yourself in what you think you can do.” –Steffen Parratt, CFO, KCG Holdings, Inc.
