Lessons Learned: Always Expect the Unexpected

“Kiva Systems was a robotics company that helped to revolutionize robotics inside e-commerce distribution centers. It was a very cool company with a very cool product. In early 2011, I joined them to start to put controls in place to get the company ready to go public. I thought that process was going to take 12 to 15 months. Instead, a little over a month after my arrival, we received an offer letter from Amazon, and due diligence quickly followed. So six months after I arrived, we were part of Amazon.”
